I think if you took a poll on how long certain people have stalked Stephanie Cotta Photography I would definitely be in the running for the longest. Creepy? Maybe, haha, but we all are inspired to be better from someone or something. It all started with her before and after of the “chin up” pose (back in March 2012). I was SO new to photographing newborns and didn’t know that this was a composite. It was the first but certainly not the last thing I learned from Stephanie.
I moved to San Diego 16 months ago now. Shortly after moving here, I saw Stephanie post on her Facebook page that she needed to borrow some newborn posing items for an on-location shoot in San Diego. I gladly volunteered and went to take my posing bag and backdrop stand to her. Alas, I just met her brother instead. Wah-wah-wah
Anyhow, when I rented my studio this last April, I contacted Stephanie and asked her if she wanted to come back to San Diego for a workshop. I was met with great enthusiasm and the planning began. It all came together rather nicely and we had the most amazing time last weekend. I have to say, I have ALL her guides. I have read them, watched them, and used them to make myself a better photographer. However, there is NOTHING like seeing it in person. It was so awesome and I was completely engrossed in the first 20 minutes. The amount of learning that goes on in her workshops is incredible. I truly believe it’s worth every penny. I also met some great new friends in the other photographers that attended. It was especially cool to get to know Kate Mills of Chasing Daylight better. We actually share the studio and have only met once!!
As a host, I picked Stephanie up and took her around a little. We check out downtown San Diego, where my studio is located, and got to know each other a little better. It was really a great time. I’m pretty much a spaz and I think I saw a little spaz in Mrs. Cotta too…hehe. She truly makes you feel like you’ve been friends forever. I can’t wait to have her back here. Let the planning begin!
Some of my favorite shots from the workshop…Posed by Stephanie, photographed and edited by ME!
